PBS documents the struggles of an unlikely hero in New Explorers: Journey to Save a Crane. Traveling all the way to Siberia, Bill Kurtis is on a mission of mercy. Along with Dr. George Archibald and a team from the International Crane Foundation, the group hopes to rescue an endangered species of crane. In addition to being a loss to animal lovers, their extinction would have harmful effects on their surrounding ecology. On a similar mission, John Fitzpatrick has journeyed to the jungles of Peru to seek out a brand new species of bird found only in the Amazon. Both segments demonstrate the important role diversity plays in the world's ecosystem.
