Synopsis by Janiss Garza
In her first Paramount film, Billie Burke plays Helen Wentworth, an heiress who's bored with the high life and decides to enjoy a bit of the low life. She robs her own home of gowns and money, then goes to live in a cheap boarding house as Mavis Terry. Three men fall in love with her: struggling writer Gordon True (Thomas Meighan), hardware clerk Freddie Bollen (Walter Hiers), and department store clerk John Quig (Gerald O. Smith). It takes only the barest knowledge of silent film stars to know that Helen/Mavis winds up with handsome, charmismatic Gordon, but first she has to test his honesty, even though she's being dishonest herself. Gordon is only temporarily thrown when he finds out Mavis' real identity, and soon after, they head for the altar.
