Synopsis by Clarke Fountain

This is a documentary about child rights advocate, Dr. Dora Bialestock, who was active in Australia until her death in 1975. As an infant, Dora Bialestock was brought to Australia from Austria by her Polish-Jewish family. She had a distinguished career in medicine as a pathologist before taking up the cause of children. In addition to detailing her life and career in child advocacy, this documentary also examines her personal performance as a mother. Adding poignancy to this examination is the fact that it is filmed by her daughter, Rivka Hartmann, who contrasts her mother's public career of intense concern for children with her own feelings of having been poorly mothered.
