Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Season five of The Mary Tyler Moore Show opens with the distinct probability that Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore) will spend some time in the slammer. Having produced a TV report on graft in high places, Mary refuses to reveal her source to a Federal grand jury. The result: a contempt charge, a summons, and a gentleman with handcuffs at Mary's doorstep. Barbara Colby makes the first of two series appearances as Sherry, the "working girl" with whom wide-eyed Mary ends up sharing a jail cell. First telecast on September 14, 1974, "Will Mary Richards Go to Jail?" earned an Emmy award for scriptwriters Ed Weinberger and Stan Daniels.
