Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Phyllis (Cloris Leachman) hopes to play matchmaker when her brother, Ben (Robert Moore), pays a visit. It is Phyllis' fervent hope that Ben will hit it off with Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore). But Cupid's aim seems to be a bit off, and it is Rhoda (Valerie Harper) who becomes the recipient of Ben's attention. The punch line of "My Brother's Keeper," which was considered quite daring when the episode first aired on January 13, 1973, was literally a last-minute inspiration, written during filming when the original ending laid an egg in front of the studio audience.
