Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein

Produced and directed by David M. Hartford, The Man in the Shadow featured Joseph Bennett as Dallis Alvoid, a young bank clerk lured into a life of crime by Thomas Walsh (John T. Dwyer), a nasty gambler. Dallis is soon deep in debt to the villain, who blackmails him into handing over the blueprints to the bank. When Walsh is found murdered, Dallis becomes the natural suspect and is eventually sentenced to death. In the eleventh hour, however, the condemned man's girlfriend, Lucy (Mary McAllister), arrives with proof of his innocence. The real killer, another blackmail victim (Edward Coxen), confesses to the crime with his dying breath and Dallis is reunited with Lucy. Character actor David Torrence earned star billing as the heroine's father in this melodrama, which also featured the veteran Myrtle Stedman and Arthur Rankin.
