Synopsis by Janiss Garza

At the time William Farnum made this adventure film, he was near the peak of his stardom. After a wild, drunken night, wealthy George Arnold (Farnum) wakes up to discover that he has proposed to a young woman, Helen Garfield (Louise Lovely). He resolves to honor the commitment, but then Henry Benton (Charles Clary) shows up and sells him some oil stock. The stock turns out to be fraudulent, and Helen was part of the scheme. In a fit of anger, Arnold attacks Benton, and as a result is sentenced to a year in jail. When he gets out, he vows to kill Benton. While working as a dockhand, he discovers that Benton is on board a steamer, and he smuggles himself on board. During a storm, the ship is wrecked and Arnold, Benton, and Helen are all cast onto an island. Helen begs Arnold to show Benton some mercy, and he agrees, but the frightened Benton falls over a cliff and dies anyway. Helen learns to love Arnold, and they agree to marry after they are rescued. Back in civilization, Arnold discovers that the supposedly fake oil stock is worth a fortune.
