Synopsis by Steve Blackburn

The bigger they come, the harder they fall. The ninth video of the ten-volume series, this program profiles John Gotti, the former small-time hood who became leader of the infamous Gambino crime family. The video covers Gotti's beginnings in organized crime to his conviction and imprisonment. Nicknamed "the Dapper Don," Gotti was so confident of his power that he smiled pleasantly for his mug shot after being arrested by New York police in 1990. As this video shows, he had reason to be confident: he beat the rap in three consecutive cases, until fellow mobster Salvatore Gravano testified against his former cohort, tying Gotti to ten murders. On the basis of Gravano's testimony, as well as wiretap evidence, Gotti was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without parole on June 23, 1992.
