Synopsis by Augustine Chay
Director Dan Friedkin’s post-WWII drama is an adaptation of art historian Jonathan Lopez’s 2008 true-crime biography, “The Man Who Made Vermeers: Unvarnishing the Legend of Master Forger Han van Meegeren.” Starring Guy Pearce, Claes Bang, Vicky Krieps, and Roland Møller, it follows a Jewish investigator’s attempt to investigate Han van Meegeren: a flamboyant art collector who appears to have sold valuable Dutch artworks to high-ranking Nazi officials. Against all odds, he finds himself fighting to prove Van Meegeren’s innocence.
