The Landscapes of Frederic Edwin Church chronicles the career of the 19th century American painter. Born in Connecticut, Church traveled widely, producing location landscape paintings from New England, to Europe, to Ecuador. This program is hosted by curator of the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., Nicolai Cikovsky Jr. Cikovsky narrates a tour of Church's home in Hudson, NY, and visits sites where Church produced some of his more notable works. The program provides a solid background on the period, as well as revealing Church's many influences. Paintings highlighted in this film include New England Scenery, Niagara, Heart of the Andes, Icebergs, Twilight in the Wilderness, Cotopaxi, Parthenon, and Morning in the Tropics.
