The Vitagraph studios must have been going through a phase of social consciousness -- in a brief period of time, it released films in favor of 1) the Widowed Mothers' Pension Bill, 2) against capital punishment, 3) calling for peace, and this one which showed blind youngsters learning how to make useful lives for themselves In New York City, there actually was a home for the blind referred to as the Lighthouse, and it serves as a backdrop for this sentimental drama. Victor Vaughn (Reginald Sheffield) is blinded during Fourth of July celebrations and is brought to the Lighthouse by his father, a widower (Lionel Adams). Miss Hope (Rose Tapley) -- the "lady of the Lighthouse" -- takes him under her wing, as she has with so many others, and he is transformed from a sullen child into a charming little boy who, it turns out, has a beautiful singing voice. An operation brings the boy's sight back, and his father marries Miss Hope.
