Now that his family is wealthy, Lionel Jefferson (Mike Evans) decides to take full advantage of his father's deep pockets. He begins to burn the candles at both end, partying all night, throwing his cash around, cutting classes in college, and neglecting his family. Dad George (Sherman Hemsley) at first tries to tolerate his son's profligacy -- but when Lionel announces his intention to drop out of school, it's a different matter.
