Synopsis by Mark Deming

A young woman strives to break free of her controlling family and their unusual traditions in this drama from writer and director Zuzana Liova. Eva (Judit Bardos) is eighteen years old and eager to make a life for herself after finishing high school, but her father Imrich (Miroslav Krobot), who works in a nearby factory, has other ideas. Following his family's customs, Imrich is building a house for Eva on the family's property, not far from where he lives. Eva is wary about living in the shadow of her father, but she also knows the consequences of confronting him; her older sister Jana (Lucia Jaskova) rejected Imrich's similar efforts years before (the house he was building for her remains unfinished), and now that she's trapped in a failing marriage and without a home, he refuses to help or even speak to her. As Eva debates her options, she rebels against her parents by entering into a clandestine romance with Jakub (Marian Mitel), a teacher at her school who is married with children. Dom (aka The House) was an official selection at the 2011 Berlin Film Festival.
