Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein

A tragic silent melodrama written and directed by Colin Campbell, The Hopeless Dawn featured Harold Lockwood and Wheeler Oakman as fishermen brothers in love with the same girl, a coquettish tease (Bessie Eyton). Fighting over the girl, both brothers drown. When their bodies wash ashore, the girl goes mad. The Scottish-born Campbell was one of the most productive directors in the formative early years of cinema, helming such milestones the lusty The Spoilers (1914), both for the Selig Polyscope Company. Sadly, by the mid '20s, Campbell was already a forgotten man; he died at the age of 67 in 1928.
