Synopsis by Mark Deming

A period piece set in the American South, The Height of the Sky concerns the Jones family, a clan of sharecroppers who struggle under the yoke of the Caldwells, a wealthy farming family who own the land the Joneses have worked for years. Leora, (Jennifer Weedon), the daughter of the Jones family, aspires to better things; she wants to become a teacher and works to someday rise above the poverty of her upbringing while several of her kin struggle with tuberculosis. Directed and co-written by Lyn Clinton (a distant relative of President Bill Clinton), The Height of the Sky received positive notices for its screenings at the 1999 Dances With Films Festival of the Unknowns.
