Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Also known as The Great Georgia Bank Hoax and Shenanigans, this trenchant comedy is an attempt at political satire. As an "object lesson," small-town bank clerk Richard (Paul Sand) embezzles $100,000. He plans to give it back immediately, but Richard's boss Jack (Burgess Meredith), already aware of the missing money and terrified that the loss will reflect badly on him, stages a $200,000 robbery to cover up the discrepancy. When the insurance folks threaten to prosecute, everyone in town conspires to replace the loot, thereby further complicating matters. The "Watergate" analogies in The Great Bank Hoax couldn't be ignored even if one tried.
