Synopsis by Janiss Garza
This mystery was based on the magazine serial "Vicky Van" by Carolyn Wells. Innocent, pretty Ruth Endicott (Ethel Clayton) marries the wealthy but much older Randolph Schuyler (Noah Beery). He treats her brutally and makes her life miserable until she inherits a large sum of money from her uncle. With the help of Tibbetts (Jane Wolfe), her loyal maid, Ruth buys the house next door under the name Victoria Van Allen. Without Schuyler's knowledge she begins throwing festive, Bohemian parties. Vicky's parties are a hot ticket, and when Schuyler finds out about them, he convinces a friend to bring him along. When he sees Vicky Van, he recognizes her as his wife. He tears off her wig and attacks her. He is stabbed to death and Vicky and Tibbetts disappear. A detective assigned to the case is aided by Chester Calhoun (Emory Johnson), who has fallen in love with Ruth/Vicky. They finally locate her, but Tibbetts breaks down and admits it was she who killed Schuyler, to save Ruth's life. The maid is led away in handcuffs, while Ruth is finally able to settle down with a good man.
