The Gambler's Wife was one of three Pathe films released in America during the week of September 10, 1910. The title character despairs because her improvident husband spends all his waking hours playing cards -- and losing spectacularly. Depleting his bank account, the gambler tries to use the deed to his house as collateral, at which point the wife has decided she has had enough. Losing his house, the gambler draws up plans to rob the safe of his wealthy uncle. He is dissuaded from this drastic course by a dream, which ends with his own death. Upon awakening, the gambler learns that his wife has put up her jewelry in a winner-take-all card game, and has won back everything he's lost. Gratefully, the gambler kisses his wife passionately (too passionately for to suit the taste of the Variety reviewer) and promises never to lift another card.
