This weekly, half-hour Canadian series concentrated on the physical and mental growth processes of preschool children. Hosted by Dr. Bette Stephenson, the program began as a local Wednesday-afternoon effort from Toronto's CBLT-TV, beginning October 4, 1971. After completing its local run on May 9, 1973, the program was picked up by the entire CBC network on October 4 of that same year. Broadcast on Thursdays, the "national" version of The First Five Years was last seen on May 9, 1974.
