Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Telecast by Australia's ABC Network in 1972, the six-part The Far Country was the first of two miniseries adaptations of Nevil Shute's best-selling novel. Set in post-WWII Victoria, the story revolved around the romance between local girl Jennifer Morton and expatriate Czech doctor Carl Zlinter (Peter Gwynne). Denied a license to practice in Australia, Carl did his best to survive his hostile new environment, but a horrible secret in his past threatened to have tragic consequences for both himself and his beloved Jennifer. The Far Country was remade as a four-parter in 1987.
