Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This video is a volume in a ten-part series, narrated by Peter Jennings, that chronicles the tumultuous era of the 1960's. In this episode, the subject is politics. Jennings looks at The Warren Report, the U.S. government commissioned study that found that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. On the world political stage, India elected Indira Gandhi as Prime Minister. In America, the state of Georgia was rocked by the political feud between white supremacist Lester Maddox and Julian Bond, an articulate spokesman for the rights of African-Americans. The Red Guard made a strong showing in China, and an atomic bomb was lost in Spain. Archival film footage provides the graphics for these events of the 1960's.
