The Devil's Playground (1932)

Synopsis by Nathan Southern
The "playground" of the title refers to the Earth's ocean depths, with their visually dazzling and occasionally deadly species of fish; accordingly, this unusual nature-themed documentary from 1932 follows a marine adventurer, heir and sportsman George Vanderbilt II, as he ventures around the world, chasing and spearing the most exotic fish that he can find. His targets include the Devil Fish, with its 22-foot span of flippers; the sailfish; and an elusive whale, which he pursues in a tiny rowboat armed with only one harpoon.
