Meanwhile, Marion Dane (Kathleen Kirkham), who had loved Lane, tries to woo him away while pretending to be Marta's friend. Finally, she and the doctor run off together one stormy night. They take refuge in a hut, and Lorenz tries to take advantage of her. Before he can have his way with her, lightning strikes the hut, burying them in the ruins. Dr. Lorenz dies, but Lane saves Marta and they make a fresh start.
