Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Cowboy hero William S. Hart was both star and co-director of the 4-reel sagebrusher The Darkening Trail. The story begins in the Yukon, where a rich ne'er-do-well (George Fisher) wins the affections of Hart's girlfriend (Enid Markey). Having already "ruined" a girl back in the states, the wealthy wastrel thinks nothing of deserting his current sweetheart as she lies dying. Present at the girl's bedside when she expires, Hart vows to track down her seducer, even unto the ends of the earth. Produced by Thomas Ince and floridly written by C. Gardner Sullivan, The Darkening Trail is one of a handful of William S. Hart vehicles still available for public viewing.
