Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The off-and-on quality of the Kalem films was definitely "on" for the one-reel melodrama The Conspirators. The scene is a South American banana republic, where revolutions are a daily occurrence. A group of rebels gather to draw lots for the honor of assassinating the current Presidente. Meanwhile, the leader's male secretary is carrying on an affair with his boss' wife. When the Presidente arrives home early, the secretary takes refuge in the leader's limousine. At this point, the chosen assassin arrives; assuming that the occupant in the car is the Presidente, the assassin murders the hapless secretary, leaving Madame Presidente to weep over her unfortunate lover's corpse.
