Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This program is final part of a three volume series, hosted by Zoro, which traces the history of drumming on the American music scene. This episode pays homage to the hip-hop era. Performance clips of artists from James Brown to Chuck Brown & the Soul Searchers are used to demonstrate the evolution from the soul and funk sound into its latest incarnation as hip-hop. The hip-hop era of the '90s saw an explosion of musical forms, including rap, go-go, new jack swing, and urban R&B. New variations were built on older drumming techniques to produce the unique sound, which is presented here by some of its masters.
