This program is part one of a series, hosted by Zoro, which traces the history of drumming on the American music scene. This episode pays homage to the roots of the funk sound of the 1960s and '70s. No city is more associated with funk than New Orleans, with its local high priests the Meters. The group's music is featured, along with that of James Brown, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band. Musicians demonstrate the techniques that are essential to the funk sound.
