Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Set in San Francisco's Chinatown, City of Dim Faces starred Japanese actor Sessue Hayakawa as Jang Lung, the son of a sinister Chinese importer and his occidental wife. Jang's despotic father has locked his wife away in a secret cellar and shipped his son off to college, without ever informing the boy of the "white" blood which courses through his veins. While attending school, Jang falls in love with Marcelle Mathews (Doris Pawn), but their romance is destroyed by the anti-Chinese bigotry of her family. In retaliation, Jang kidnaps Marcelle, drugs the girl and prepares to auction her off in Chinatown's sub rosa "marriage market." But upon discovering that his own mother has been rendered insane by similar treatment, Jang relents and rescues Marcelle from a Fate Worse Than Death.
