Synopsis by Mark Deming
One of the more underrated bands to emerge from the U.K. in the 1980s, the Chameleons played intelligent and adventurous pop music with a psychedelic undertow, in a manner not entirely unlike such contemporaries as the Teardrop Explodes and Echo and the Bunnymen. While they never achieved a similar level of popularity (particularly in the United States), they were a potent live act, as evidenced by this release, which features a live show at the Gallery Club in their hometown of Manchester. Selections include "Paper Tigers," "In Shreds," "Second Skin," "Don't Fall," "Pleasure and Pain," and several others, including a handful of otherwise unrecorded songs.
