Synopsis by Sean Hurley

The Century: Events That Shaped the World is a 12-part ABC News production hosted by Peter Jennings that explores the many events and personalities that colored the 20th century. Still in the grips of the devastation wrought by the Great Depression, Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal campaign platform earned him a presidential victory over the ineffectual Herbert Hoover. In Coming Apart: Nothing to Fear, the viewer is transported to the era when many of the social programs we take for granted today were being fought for -- tooth and nail -- by the Roosevelt administration. Feared as a left-wing dictator by some, and revered by many as the only man with the strength to lead America out of the miserable doldrums into which it had slipped, FDR -- as this documentary makes clear -- was undoubtedly one of the most influential presidents in this nation's history.
