Despite the fact that Della Street finally lands her boss -- or perhaps because of it -- The Case of the Velvet Claws is not on par with the three previous series entries. Not that Warren William isn't his old reliable self in this his final effort as Erle Stanley Garner's famous defense attorney -- he is -- but the whodunit is not very difficult to solve and, for once, the supporting cast (which include future Western hero William Elliott still billed as Gordon Elliott and wearing drawing room attire) is below par.
