Israel has had many allies around the world since the nation's independence was declared in 1948, but in recent years a growing number of world leaders and political analysts have began questioning their actions in the ongoing conflict with Palestinians and Arab nations in the Middle East. Alan Dershowitz, one of America's best known defense attorneys, is a passionate advocate for Israel, and in 2003 he published the book The Case For Israel in which he detailed his reasons for supporting Israel and their policies. A lecture by Dershowitz in which he talks about his support of Israel is the core of the documentary The Case for Israel: Democracy's Outpost, which supports Dershowitz's arguments through interviews with Benjamin Netanyahu, Ehud Barak, Tzipi Livni, Shimon Peres, Natan Sharansky and many more. Director Michael Yohay builds the argument that supporting Israel is the best bet for a progressive and democratic future in the Middle East. The Case for Israel: Democracy's Outpost was an official selection at the 2009 Palm Beach International Film Festival.
