Synopsis by Mark Deming
A farming family in the Republic of Moldova struggles to get ahead while making a better life for their children in this documentary from filmmaker Thomas Ciulei. Costica Ahir is a farmer who has been looking after his three children -- Alexie, Maria and Alexandra -- by himself since his wife relocated to Italy, hoping to get a job that would earn enough to help send the children to a better school. While the children help around the house, Thomas worries that he's putting more of a burden on them than they should have to bear, and he wants them to focus on their education rather than chores. But the farm only brings in so much money despite the hard work he puts into it, and the family's existence seems more than a little precarious as they're often dependent on fate for their livelihood. Podul Del Flori (aka The Flower Bridge) was an official selection at the 2008 Transylvania Film Festival.
