With episode 12, host Michael Moore ends the first season of The Awful Truth. In the first segment of the program, Moore introduces Darrel Hurt, a laid-off automobile factory worker. His job, Moore contends, has been shipped to Mexico due to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Moore decides that he too will take advantage of less expensive Mexican labor by hiring someone to work as "NAFTA Mike." NAFTA Mike will take Hurt to Mexico in an effort to get his old job back and help him start a new life. Next, a short film eavesdrops on a strikebreakers meeting. The strikebreakers love their job and hate unions, but decide that their pay is too low and they need medical insurance. The only way to accomplish this, they reason, is to organize. The last segment of the program celebrates a wedding, or merger, between two automobile companies, Chrysler and Daimler. Moore brings a minister, flower girl, and presents for both parties.
