Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Henry Oyen's novel Gaston Olaf was the saga of a two-fisted French Canadian lumberjack. The film version of Gaston Olaf, 1918's The Avenging Trail, starred Harold Lockwood as Olaf. Amidst all the brawling and "Timberrrr"-ing, this 5-reeler finds time to accommodate Lockwood's romance with Sally Crute, and his breaking up of a robbery gang. Halfway down the cast list as "Lefty Red" is ugly-as-sin Louis Wolheim, several years away from his Broadway fame as star of What Price Glory? Directed by John Ford's older brother Francis, The Avenging Trail is often seen nowadays in the 15-minute abridgement prepared for the Movie Museum TV series of the early 1950s.
