Synopsis by Maggie Sadler

Since 1934, the Apollo Theater has served as a site of cultural significance in Harlem, hosting some of history's most notable artists of color and supporting their careers. In this documentary, Academy Award-winning director Roger Ross Williams dives deep into the theater's varied past with an eye towards the future as the Apollo prepares to stage ""Between the World and Me"" by Ta-Nehisi Coates. At the heart of the narrative is the theater's symbolic significance for the black struggle in the United States as a whole.
