Synopsis by Alice Day

There have been several instances of inherited power in regard to the presidency, and in The American President: Family Ties, this occurrence is explored. Historically, the passing of power from one generation to another was not considered a matter important enough to address in those first documents when the nation was new. But four presidents are recipients of this curious legacy: John Quincy Adams, Benjamin Harrison, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and John F. Kennedy. Of the four, two were ill at ease with their power, while two seemed perfectly suited to their high office.
