Produced by low-budget distributor Hi-Mark, he Adventurous Soul was a typical 1920s melodrama in which a powerful shipping magnate (Charles K. French schemes to teach his worthless son (Arthur Rankin) a lesson by having him "shanghaied" on board one of his vessels. The son learns of the plot in time and pays his sister's fiancee, shipping clerk (James F. Fulton), to take his place. The latter manages to stand up to the tough captain (Tom Santschi) and returns a hero. (Mildred Harris), the estranged first wife of Charles Chaplin), earned star billing as Fulton's fiancee but the film really belonged to veteran Western menace Tom Santschi, the curly-haired screen brute famous for his fight with William Farnum in the 1914 version of The Spoilers. The Adventurous Soul was produced by one Harried Virginia, which may have been a pseudonym for veteran director Harry J. Revier.
