Synopsis by Nathan Southern

The minimalist, pitch-black Australian comedy The Actress concerns three socially helpless (and perpetually dateless) losers - supermarket checker Tom (Matt Hardie), office stiff Kevin (Steve McCall) and university co-ed Claire (Jodie Passmore). In need of a new roommate after the fourth member of their Perth household splits, Tom brings in new girlfriend Emma (Caitlin Higgins), an actress from Melbourne, to fill the void. Emma, however, puts everyone's nerves on edge by demonstrating serious resistance to the idea of ever coughing up the rent. More problematically, this woman of completely inscrutable motives (and pliable sexual orientation) proceeds to seduce and manipulate each flatmate on an almost sociopathic level, and strategically pits roommate against roommate. As a result, virulent hostilities suddenly explode between Tom, Claire and Kevin during an evening of heavy drinking.
