Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein

Low-budget Western hero Al Hoxie starred in this terrible oater, the fifth of eight directed by the veteran J.P. McGowan. This time, Hoxie searches for a masked killer whose calling card is an ace of clubs. The identity of the killer was -- according to contemporary reviews -- fairly obvious and the film suffered from a general lack of suspense. The brother of Universal star Jack Hoxie, Al Hoxie began his brief starring career with this series produced by Morris R. Schlank's penny-pinching Anchor Pictures. Western film historian William K. Everson has called The Ace of Clubs a "physical wasteland."
