Synopsis by Jonathan Crow

Desai Jayant directs and K. L. Saigal stars in tale about Tansen, a legendary 16th century court musician for the Mughal Emperor Akbar. At the film's outset, Tansen falls in love with the beautiful shepherdess Tani (Khursheed), while composing some of his most famous ragas. Tansen's musical ability is so profound that it is rumored that he can soothe wild animals, make plants flower and cure the ailing. Soon after joining the Emperor's (Mubarak) court -- forcing him to be away from his beloved Tani -- he performs the Deepak raga to heal Akbar's daughter. When the fervor of his playing causes him to catch on fire, Tansen is saved only by Tani singing a rainmaking raga.
