Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Created by Mark Maxwell-Smith, the British game show Talkabout was seen on weekday afternoons in a choice 30-minute slot. On each installment, three two-person teams were encouraged to talk at great and uninterrupted length about a variety of subjects. If the players were able to identify the ten "hot words" in the conversation (similar to Groucho Marx's fabled "secret word"), and if they were able to out-talk the other team, then the game's big prizes were theirs. The stakes rose toward the end of the program, with double values afforded to certain "hot" words, and a double-double value given the last remaining word. Hosted by Andrew O'Connor, Talkabout was telecast by ITV from 1990 to 1993.
