Hosted by Bruce Forsyth, the British game show Takeover Bid allowed its contestants to choose the prizes won by the competition over the prizes that they had accumulated in the course of the program. Naturally, the players had to jump through several hoops before they could bid on the opposition's booty. Among the rounds were "Forsyth's Fact or Fib," a true-false session, and "Crazy Cryptics," with the players solving puzzles with only the obscurest of clues. In the climactic "Star Spin" round, the finalists spun a five-pointed star to determine the subjects which would provide the questions posed by the ever-smiling Forsyth. The winner not only took home all the prizes accrued, but also earned a holiday cruise. Takeover Bid was seen over the BBC from 1990 to 1991.
