Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
Up until 1985, the stern and humorless socialist state of Hungary had never had a beauty pageant. This documentary follows the story of the first one, and the fate of the girls who won. In addition to being pressured into making commercial endorsements and working for sub-par wages, the winners and contestants endured countless mishaps, including the sale of their photos to nudie magazines by unscrupulous promoters. Indeed, the pressures on the girl who won were so unbearable to her that she committed suicide before her year's "reign" was complete.
