Synopsis by Jonathan Crow
Telugu filmmaker B. N. Reddi directs this showbiz melodrama about the slow transformation bucolic street performer Subbi (P. Bhanumathi) makes to become a glitzy libertine diva. Her Svengali is Murthi (Chittor V. Nagaiah). As he helps her become a massive star, she in turn slowly breaks up Murthi's marriage to the kind-hearted Kalyani (V. Jayamma). Cinematographer Marcus Bartley's camerawork along with Bhanumathi's subtle performance proved to be highly influential to Telugu cinema. This film was reported based on Rouben Mamoulian's 1941 opus Blood and Sand starring Rita Hayworth.
