Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Aimed at children, the British weekend series Swap Team combined the game-show genre with the adventure-film form. The premise: On the eve of the Millennium, the evil Baron Von Hagenvaas managed to steal all of the Swap-Its (a special form of children's currency) in the world. The series' youthful contestants were required to navigate through a series of daunting obstacles in order to reach the Baron's tower and steal back the Swap-Its, which could then be exchanged for all sorts of swell prizes. The game's various rounds included "Thunderdome" (featuring a rotating laser), "Packing Box" (if one could find said box, one could also locate clues as to the Baron's whereabouts), and "Office" (in which office furniture and equipment metamorphosed into athletic devices). Debuting July 22, 2000 on ITV, Swap Team ran for 12 episodes.
