Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The Bride with a Dowry in this exuberant Russian musical is a healthy young lass named Olga (Vera Vashilieva). A worker on a collective farm, Olga falls in love with Maxim (Vladimir Ushakov), the head of a neighboring farm. On the eve of their wedding, Olga and Maxim have an argument over farming methods, whereupon she walks out on him. Several other misunderstandings later, hero and heroine learn the value of agricultural cooperation. Propagandistic through and through, Bride with a Dowry at least balances ideology with entertainment value.
