A big surprise awaits the 16 castaways on their very first day at the island of Koh Taruto, somewhere off the coast of Thailand. On this occasion, the producers of Survivor had not preselected the members of the two tribes. Instead, it is up to the two oldest castaways, 61-year-old Jake and 53-year-old Jan, to determine the various members of the Sook Jai and Chauy Gahn tribes. Once these decisions are made, the leader of the Sook Jai quickly delegates responsibilities with some members building shelter and others foraging for food. Meanwhile, the members of Chauy Gahn must embark upon a long and treacherous swim in search of fresh water, a challenge that definitely takes it toll. Indeed, the first person voted off the island is one of the Chuay Gahn clan.
