Synopsis by Hal Erickson
On this cable reality series, 14 amateur female surfers, ages 18 to 24, donned bikinis, grabbed their boards, and sought out the Big Waves in Australia, Samoa, Tahiti, and Hawaii. Those who made the early cut were permitted to compete for a wild-card entry into the World Championship Tour of Surfing, with the winners reaching Blue-Crush Nirvana at the Roxy Fiji Pro Contest. The series was an agreeable blend of nearly naked women, catfighting, tears, and Runyonesque surfing jargon. And remember: "Surfing isn't just a sport: It's a philosophy." Surf Girls debuted over the MTV network on May 12, 2003.
