Synopsis by Janiss Garza
While in Paris, Herbert Dubois (Antonio Moreno), a young doctor, marries Annette (Dorothy Kelly), a grisette, or working class girl. But he returns to America, and under the assumption that she has died, marries a girl of his own station, Florence (Marguerite Blake). One day, while performing his usual duties, Dubois is called on to do an autopsy. He's shocked to see his first wife on the table. He knows that she's not dead but is in a cataleptic trance, and he is tempted to go ahead with the autopsy, which will kill her. But after wrestling with his conscience, he finally tells those around him that she is alive. Annette, however, doesn't stay alive for long -- she conveniently dies at about the time that Dubois' second wife has a baby.
